Pyay (Prome) – The Ancient City of Srikshetra Dynasty from Myanmar (Burma)

Formerly known as Prome, the town Pyay in ancient times was known as Srikshetra (Thayaykhittaya).

pyay-city-in-map-myanmarAbout 170 miles north of Yangon. Pyay lies by the Ayeyarwaddy River and it is the Second biggest producer of paddy after Ayeyarwaddy Region. The British Irrawaddy flotilla Company established the town in late 18000s on the Ayeyarwady River as a trans-shipment point for cargos between upper and lower Myanmar. It is also called ‘Pyi’ by the locals meaning ‘country’ in Myanmar Language.

Srikshetra was founded by King Duttabaung in BC 343-373 and was the capital of the new Pyu dynasty of Vikrma. The ancient Pyu capital of Srikshetra is located 8 kilometer to the southeast of modern Pyay. It is one of the interesting places to visit in pyay because of their historical importance and archaeological sites. SEANET launched the new Satellite to give Faster Broadband Internet to Myanmar

IT services firm Southeastasia Net Technologies Myanmar Co Ltd (SEANET) has launched a new satellite network to bring broadband internet to Myanmar. The network is known as a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) and the company will be looking for clients such as NGOs, banks and cellular operators to provide a dedicated stream of data for their customers.

“VSAT delivered internet will play a pivotal role in developing Myanmar’s ICT infrastructure,” U Pyone Maung Maung, chairman and managing director of SEANET Myanmar, said.

Mobile Revolution in Myanmar (Burma)

Myanmar has seen massive growth in internet penetration, mobile phone adoption and social media usage in the past few years, spurred by the end of direct military rule and rapid opening up of its market after decades of isolation.

The consumer market in Myanmar has essentially bypassed the development stages seen in other economies and moved straight to digital and mobile, making the company a potentially interesting test bed for internet-enabled businesses.

Myanmar Gold Price Leads World Market

The price of gold in Myanmar hit a record high this month, as global political and economic uncertainty pushes up the metal’s value on world markets, according to industry figures.

U Win Myint, secretary of the Yangon Region Gold Entrepreneurs Association said that the prices hit K812,000 per tical (0.576 ounces or 0.527 troy ounces) on June 16 – a new high.

The main factor behind the record was a strong rally on international markets, he said. The New York Spot Price for gold was below U$1100 per ounce in January, and finished last week above $1300.

Myanmar gold prices spent much of last year being driven by volatility in the kyat-dollar exchange rate. As the kyat fell sharply against the dollar people bought gold instead.
